Here's Why You Shouldn't Consume Cold Foods And Drinks While You Are On Your Periods


MENSTRUAL CRAMPS:are caused due to the excessive contractions of the uterine and abdominal muscles to discharge the menstrual fluid out of the body. These muscle contractions are caused by various chemicals that may also include prostaglandins, which is why we are asked to avoid certain foods and beverages that are responsible for instigating the production of this chemical.


For easy blood flow, drink warm water and avoid very cold and sugary items to keep away the inflammation."


All this, however, depends from person to person. Every woman has a different body system that is Why most

may feel absolutely okay after consuming cold items, some may experience severe cramps. Our suggestion is to know what your body is used to and act accordingly. However, taking precaution doesn't hurt either. Eat and drink items that help produce heat in the body in order to let the blood flow without hampering your health. Include more green leafy vegetables, nuts, whole grains and green tea in your diet to ensure happy and healthy periods.


FOODS TO AVOID


(1) SOFT DRINKS/BEVERAGES:It’s OK to have sugar in moderation, but eating too much of it can cause a spike in energy followed by a crash. This can worsen your mood. If you tend to feel moody, depressed, or anxious during your period, watching your sugar intake can help regulate your mood.


(2 )ALCOHOL:alcohol can dehydrate you, which can worsen headaches and cause bloating. It can also lead to digestive issues, such as diarrhea and nausea.


(3)SPICY FOODS:Many people find that spicy foods upset their stomachs, giving them diarrhea, stomach pain, and even nausea. If your stomach struggles to tolerate spicy foods or if you’re not used to eating them, it might be best to avoid them during your period.

(5)RED MEATS:Red meat may be high in iron, but it is also high in prostaglandins and should be avoided during menstruation.

During your period, your body produces prostaglandins. These compounds help your uterus contract and get rid of the uterine lining, resulting in your menstrual flow. However, high levels of prostaglandins cause cramps.


(6)FRIED FOODS:Cut back on foods containing trans fats, which elevate estrogen levels, to reduce pain during your period. That means fried foods are out. Also, avoid anything with hydrogenated vegetable oil on the ingredient list.
